Portal Setup Instructions - for an Upgrade
1) Save your S2winPortal.exe and Systems2winInstall.exe files in a permanent
location
Be sure to archive or destroy ALL copies of earlier
versions - so that you don't accidentally install an old version in the
future
2) Install S2winPortal.exe to any
temporary folder
Do NOT overwrite your original S2winPortal
3) Optional personalization
 | You can optionally choose to
personalize some templates and/or your portal
If you have already personalized any of your existing
templates, follow the
Tips for upgrading your Systems2win templates from an old version to a
new one |
 | You can optionally choose to remove
some templates that you don't want to distribute to your users
If you have already removed some templates from your existing
portal, you might want to remove those same templates from your new portal |
 | You can optionally choose to
add some of your own templates that you want to sync to your users
If you have already added some of your own templates to
your S2winSync folder, be sure to copy them to the S2winSync folder in
your new portal |
4) Move your S2winPortal to its permanent location
Option A) Overwrite your existing portal and templates
Recommended if:
 | Your upgraded templates have the same primary version number as
your old ones
(e.g. every time you purchase a license for more
users, you get a free upgrade for all the templates you currently
own)
If you are just purchasing more templates without adding more users,
then follow the instructions for how to install an Options Upgrade |
 | You are upgrading to a new version, and don't want to confuse
your users with multiple versions of templates
If you have personalized some templates, follow the
Tips for upgrading your Systems2win templates from an old version to a
new one.
If you want to keep a few of your old templates
exactly as they are, you can automatically distribute and store them
in the S2winSync folder
in your new portal. |
How to:
 | Use My Computer
to delete the old folders and templates.
Do NOT just copy over top of the old folder without
first deleting the old files & folders.
That would overwrite files & folders of the same name, but would
leave remnant files & folders that might mess up your new portal. |
 | Move your new S2winPortal from its temporary location to the exact same place where the old one
used to be.
(so that users' browser Favorites bookmarks will still work) |
 | Have your IT Dept ensure that your S2winPortal folder is still
Read Only for
most users.
(so that users don't accidentally overwrite your master
templates) |
 | If you have multiple copies of your portal, repeat.
(it is generally a bad idea to have copies of your
portal on multiple servers, but might be justified in unusual
circumstances) |
Option B) Establish a new portal - rather than overwriting your old one
Recommended if:
 | Your upgraded templates have a higher primary version number
than your old ones
(e.g. you are upgrading from version 5 to version 6) |
 | Your older version has a license for unlimited users
By establishing a second new portal and still keeping
your old portal, everyone in your licensed company, division, or
location can continue to use your Version 5 or lower templates for
unlimited years, while your new per seat licensed users move forward
with the new version. |
How to:
 | Use My Computer to move your new S2winPortal from its temporary
location to its permanent location
Important consideration for compliance with your
License Agreement:
Ensure that your portal
is installed in a server folder that is
accessible only to your licensed users |
 | Have your IT Dept ensure that your S2winPortal folder is still
Read Only for
most users.
(so that users don't accidentally overwrite your master
templates) |
