Installation FAQs
Tip:
Use Ctrl+F
to find keywords
FAQ: An installation (or an upgrade) doesn't seem to be
installing correctly.
Uninstall, then install again.
For a licensed version of v6 or higher, deactivate before
uninstalling: Excel >
Add-Ins > Systems2win menu > Setup
and Upgrade > Activate or Deactivate Systems2win
FAQ: My email or browser won't allow me to download an exe file.
If we haven't already provided you with an alternate renamed file,
contact us to send
you the file with the extension renamed to something other than zip or exe (which
should enable you to receive the file).
Then rename the file to end with exe, and run it as usual.
Tip: How to
unhide extensions for known file types
If your IT Dept has gone to even greater lengths to prevent you from
downloading an exe file, then ask them how they want you to do this. And
perhaps let us know.
FAQ: My computer won't allow me to install an exe file.
You need to Run as Administrator.
Perhaps ask your Information Technology Department to help you.
FAQ: When I try to install, I get the error message: "Could not initialize
installation. File size expected = <a number>, file size returned = <a smaller
number>"
Your file download was interrupted before completing the download. Download
the file again.
FAQ: Our firewall prevents activation of the license
code. (perhaps giving the error message "Socket error 2",
which means that the activation server cannot be contacted)
Things to try:
FAQ: When I try to open a file in the zSystems2win folder, it asks for a password.
Other than the Systems2win Help.xls file...
all other files in the zSystems2win folder are application files - which are not
meant to be opened.
Solution: Follow the
instructions for How to find and open your Systems2win templates.
(Also... restart Excel. Because once you click a .sys file,
it becomes disabled until you restart Excel)
FAQ: I get the error
message that "file S2win<name>.sys could not be found".
You are trying to use a Systems2win template on a computer
that does not have the Systems2win Application installed.
Solution:
Install the Systems2win Add-in on the computer you are
using. Or use the Systems2win template on a computer that already has the
Systems2win Add-in installed.
FAQ: Our Systems2win menu disappeared in Excel and the
Systems2win menu works just fine in Word (but is gone missing in Excel)...
If restarting Excel does not bring back the Systems2win menu,
then you probably forgot to close Word & Excel before installing an upgrade.
Re-installing won't help. The only way to get the lost Systems2win menu
back is to edit the Windows Register. Because editing the Windows Register
can be dangerous, this might be a good time to enlist the help of your IT
Department (or Systems2win tech support). Use Start >
Run > Regedit to change the following Windows Registry entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Office >
Excel > Addins > Systems2win1.sys > LoadBehavior must be
3 (not 2).
FAQ: When I select Systems2win menu > Open a New
Template, I can't find my templates.
(Trial templates should be in the root Office Templates folder, and
Systems2win templates should be in the Systems2win folder tab - as
illustrated in Alternative Ways to Find & Open
Your Systems2win templates)
Possibility 1) Your Administrator installed your templates while logged in
under a different user name.
Solution 1) Reinstall using our suggested method
for installing on behalf of users without Administrator privileges.
Solution 2) For licensed installations only...
Logged in as yourself - follow the instructions to
Set the path to your
S2winPortal, and do a manual Sync.
Possibility 2) If you have EVER installed a higher version of any Office
application, it will change your registry.
(the registry remains changed even if you later uninstall the higher
version)
Examples: You are using Excel 2003 and have Project 2007
installed. Or you installed Office 2007, and later uninstalled it to go back
to the less-problem-prone Office 2003.
Even then, this is only a problem if the newer version of Excel is a
different language, or the user has specified a different
default User Templates folder.
Solution: If you just want to find your Trial templates - just do a
Windows search for "TrialVSM".
All of your trial templates will be in that same folder, and all can be
opened by simply double-clicking them in Windows Explorer.
Solution: In the higher version of Office - identify the
default User Templates folder.
Then in the lower version of Office, change the default User Templates folder
to be the same.
Or change the higher version to be the same as the lower
version, and then re-install your Systems2win Add-in application.
Solution: If you have uninstalled the higher version, or have other
complications - just
contact us for tech support, and we will do a web conference to help you
get your computer back in order.
Best solution: Don't run two versions of Office on the same computer. If
you do, your problems have only just begun..
Possibility 3) The IT Department at your large company has instituted Policies that
redirect all users to a shared templates folder on a central server.
Solution: Have your IT Dept follow these
instructions to install your Systems2win templates on your shared server.
FAQ: When we open a template - the formulas show #NAME errors.
Possibility 1) Calculations just need to be refreshed.
Solution: Ctrl+Alt+F9
Possibility 2) The Systems2win application is not installed.
Solution: Install the Systems2win application. (Following the
instructions at the top of this page.)
Possibility 3) The Systems2win automation add-ins somehow became
unenabled.
Solution: Manually enable the
automation add-ins.
FAQ: How to manually enable the automation
add-ins.
Tools > Add-ins >
click the Automation... button >
then browse to select
Systems2win.Functions > OK
Then repeat to select VSM.Functions
Excel 2007: Office Button > Excel Options > Add-Ins
> Manage: Excel Add-ins > Go... > click the
Automation... button > then browse to select
Systems2win.Functions > OK
Then repeat to select VSM.Functions
FAQ: We have a lot of users. Is there anything we can do to make
multiple installations even faster and easier?
The most important thing is to personalize your
Systems2winLicense.txt file,
(which should be emailed to each user to make it easy for them to
copy & paste their License Code and S2winPortal path).
Extra credit if installing many user PC's - you can copy the
Systems2win.ini file:
Instead browsing to locate the S2winPortal on your company's shared server,
or pasting the folder path from your
System2winLicense.txt file,
you also
have the option to copy the Systems2win.ini file from the Program
Files\zSystems2win folder of any PC that has already
been set up with the correct path.
And if your IT Dept knows how to wrap this into an msi file - you
can do that too.
(This application is delivered using a standard WISE
script installer because msi requires the .NET framework, which many
of our customers don't already have installed.)
FAQ: How do we install multiple users on a single
computer?
After the first user has installed and Activated as usual...ual...
Each additional user can either:
a) re-install the Systems2win application while logged on under their User
Profile (without the need to Activate again)
b) or load the Systems2win Automation Add-ins manually
Tools > Add-ins > Automation
button. Select the add-ins: Systems2win.Functions
and VSM.Functions. Click
Okay. Restart Excel.
FAQ: How can I deactivate and move my license to another computer?
Excel > Add-Ins > Systems2win menu > Setup
and Upgrade > Activate or
Deactivate Systems2win
then simply Deactivate, (which will free
your license to be available for another computer),
or follow the instructions to Manually move license
FAQ: How to uninstall?
